Rastatt is a Fairtrade town. As part of the international "Fairtrade Towns" campaign, the non-profit association TransFaire awarded Rastatt the title of Fairtrade Town. This is because Rastatt meets all the criteria to receive this title: A municipal council resolution, a steering group, retailers and restaurateurs offering fair trade products, associations and churches committed to One World, as well as campaigns and public relations work.
The idea of applying for the title of "Fairtrade City" came about in 2014. This was followed in 2015 by a municipal council resolution to use fair-trade coffee and another fair-trade product in the city administration. Fair trade products such as coffee or chocolate can also be found in the tourist information office.
These are retailers and restaurateurs in Rastatt who offer fair trade products:
- the Fruchthalle and Gelato Go ice cream parlors
- the restaurants SchnickSchnack, Poké You, Lehners, Hotel am Schloss as well as the restaurant in Möbel Ehrmann and the Kehler Hof
- the Rastatt retail stores denn's Biomarkt, dm-Drogeriemarkt, Drogeriemarkt Müller, Tchibo, Edeka, Real, Rewe, Aldi Süd and Lidl
In order to further promote the topic of Fairtrade in Rastatt, the corresponding steering group meets regularly. The members plan actions or information events in order to win citizens and organizations for the topic.
