Heat, drought, heavy rain, floods: Climate change is also noticeable in Rastatt. Excessively hot summers and extreme drought are causing problems for people and nature. And when it does rain, it is often short and heavy. As a result, the soil can hardly absorb the precipitation. The sewage system is also overburdened at times. The city of Rastatt is responding to this development with a climate adaptation concept that is being developed together with an external specialist office. It is planned that the municipal council will adopt the Rastatt climate adaptation concept before the end of 2023.
The climate adaptation concept forms the second pillar of the Rastatt climate protection management alongside the climate protection concept. The development is supported by the Ministry for Environment, Climate and Energy Management Baden-Württemberg within the KLIMOPASS funding program.
Information and data for the climate adaptation concept is provided, among other things, by a climate analysis (PDF) (8.2 MB) from 2017. In the analysis, the urban area was divided into clusters. It recorded and evaluated, for example, the respective development and distribution of temperature or fresh air flows. The aim is to derive protection and development measures to improve the climate in the city from this and more current data. For example, nighttime cold and wind currents are to be optimally used for ventilation of the urban area.
