As an extracurricular educational partner, the municipal library supports daycare centers, schools and other educational institutions with a wide range of services to build media, language and research skills, to awaken a love of reading and to motivate people to read.
Discovering the library - age-appropriate tours
The city library team offers various guided tours for children and young people. The children not only get to know the library, but also learn how to quickly find books and other media and how to use them properly. The tours are free of charge and take place outside opening hours (Wednesday or Friday mornings).
The media lending is also possible on these days. The prerequisite is that you bring your library card with you. Those who do not yet have one should apply for one about a week in advance.
Employees of educational institutions also receive a free library card upon application for official use. Apply for library card
Fun and games with books. For preschoolers and 1st/2nd graders
The children learn about different media in a playful way: They look for media treasures, take a "train ride" through the children's library, and listen to an exciting story. Of course, there is time for independent exploration.
Goal: To awaken a desire for books and thereby promote reading motivation.
Library is fun. For 3rd/4th grade
Why are the library's books arranged alphabetically in some sections, but thematically in others? On this tour, the children delve deeper into the mysteries of a library: With a rally, they solve questions about the library and its media in groups.
Goal: To experience the library as an open and happy place to read.
Bookcasting - A desire to read. From 5th grade
In the interactive book casting, the young people evaluate book candidates from different categories on the basis of various criteria, just like in a casting show. In this way, they learn about a wide range of new publications. Since classes often have different levels of prior knowledge about the library, its services are presented in detail (Internet, word processing, printing, scanning, learning rooms).
Goal: Maintain and promote students' interest in reading.
Using the tablet to browse the library. From 6th grade
The focus is on learning search strategies using the online catalog and other information sources. The acquired knowledge is then tested during a rally through the library with the app "Actionbound". Versatile tasks and puzzles encourage active participation, explain independent media research and train the use of digital media.
Goal: Media and library literacy
