The use of the Internet of Things (IoT) in administrative digitization is an important development step on the way to a smart city. The city of Rastatt operates a LoRaWAN network for this purpose. Measured values from a wide range of sensors are transmitted via this network. The technology is designed to transmit small amounts of data over the longest possible distance. The possible applications of the sensor technology are almost unlimited: Parking lot sensors, humidity sensors, room climate monitoring, level sensors and much more.
The infrastructure of currently three gateways set up by the city of Rastatt (Herrenstraße 15, administration building Bauhof, post office building) is available to all interested parties free of charge (without assurance of availability). Due to the encryption, no one has access to the transmitted data. Further expansion of the infrastructure is planned.
The city of Rastatt also uses the technology for its own purposes. Currently around 150 sensors with a focus on indoor climate monitoring.
Within the framework of the inter-communal cooperation re@di, an Open Region is also being sought. Here you can find more info about it.
